Chapter Fourteen
the drop
...Madeline sped up, caught the car and waved her arm as she honked the horn but neither Gigi, or Sandy looked in Madelineâs direction, seeming to be busy laughing.
âDamn, I told you it was her and the bitch saw us,â she exclaimed to Gigi.
âIâve got to play her, so when I raise the window down, you can keep looking straight cause youâre driving and she wonât think anything. If necessary Iâll get out of the car and talk to her. Now donât let her see your face, Gigi,â Sandy instructed.
Sandy looked over in Madelineâs direction pretending as if she had just seen her and waved as she let the passengerâs window down.
âGirl, what are you doing way over here? Howâd you like the party the other night?â Madeline asked.
âIt was cool, but Iâm so busy right now, I canât think straight. Iâm on my way to the skating rink over on Havenhurst and got lost,â Sandy answered quickly.
âOh, make a left at the next light and itâs about two blocks down. Will you be over here long, maybe we can have a drink later,â Madeline offered.
âWhere are you headed?â Sandy asked.
âOh, Iâm on a mission. I have to go and drop something off. I might come by the rink afterwards,â she answered, as she drove on.
âOK, bye!â Sandy said, slumping down in the seat.
âDamn that was close, she nearly peeped everything. We were lucky,â she confessed, as she chuckled.
âNow that she might notice the car, weâve got to park somewhere else and walk over to her,â Sandy surmised.
When they pulled up to Sherman Way, they parked at the Mobil gas station.
âThe Petersen Aviation building is only one block up on Valjean. When you see her, walk up on the broad and say, âdonât look around or youâll be shotâ, then ask for the money and give her the pictures. Once the money is in your hand, back off and hurry back to the car. The passengerâs door will be open, the car running and Iâll be ready,â Sandy instructed.
Gigi took a deep breath and said, âHere goes.â
As she prepared to walk off Maxwell and his crew rode by, making the left turn off Sherman Way, on to Valjean and drove on. Madeline didnât pay any attention to them, but they saw that she was parked on the streets in front of the building.
Maxwell drove by looking straight ahead and after getting about two blocks down he made a U-turn, pulled over and parked. Isadore, one of his boys put the rifle on the back of the seat to steady his aim.
âNow fool, when the huzzy gets out of the car, pop her ass. Make sure she ainât near KeviKevâs wife when you shoot. If you hit her, Iâm shooting you in the arm,â Maxwell threatened.
âMaxi, donât shoot me in the same arm you shot me in before. You already shot me in it twice,â he complained.
It was 4:30 p.m. as Gigi hurried towards the Petersen Building on her way to meet Madeline.
